Prof. Erika Hamden is an astrophysicist who builds telescopes to observe hydrogen in its faintest and most diffuse forms throughout the universe. Her telescope FIREBall-2 is planned to launch into space in September 2023, and she discusses "What it takes to launch a telescope" in her 2019 TED Talk. She is also deputy PI of Aspera, a NASA funded Small Satellite UV Telescope that will launch into orbit in 2025, and PI of Hyperion, a proposed Medium Explorer class UV telescope.
She is director of the University of Arizona Space Institute and host of the TV show "New Frontiers."
